Care Guide
Watering
Spurge (Euphorbia 'Jessie') is a drought-tolerant perennial that can withstand moderate to low watering needs. Most plants require about 1 inch of water each week during the growing season. Water deeply but infrequently, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. As a general rule of thumb, water every 1-2 weeks, keeping the soil evenly moist but not soggy. If temperatures are hot (90F/32C), increase watering frequency. Be sure not to over-water as it can cause root rot or other issues. Water your Spurge in the morning to give the plant enough time to dry before nightfall.
Light
Spurge (Euphorbia 'Jessie') thrives best in full sun and requires at least 6 hours of direct sunlight each day. A bright south-facing area is ideal, as it will ensure ample sunlight. Morning sunlight is the most important in order for the plant to grow and produce flowers. If planted in too much shade, the plant will become leggy and flower production will be reduced. Additionally, if grown in overly shady areas, the plant may become more susceptible to fungal infections.
Temperature
Hardiness zone 4–9.
Pruning
Pruning your spurge (Euphorbia ‘Jessie’) is an important part of its care. Since spurge is a vigorous grower, it should be pruned annually. You should wait until early spring before starting to prune your spurge; this will help it to grow more compactly and vigorously during the spring and summer months. To prune your spurge, start by cutting off any dead, diseased, or damaged stems. Once this is done, you can begin to shape your plant by removing approximately 1/3 of the longest stems from the interior of the plant. Additionally, you can trim any stems that are growing onto or outside of the plant's desired shape. Lastly, trim off any dried or yellowed leaves. This type of pruning should be done once a year to ensure healthy and vigorous growth.
