Coreopsis rosea 'Heaven's Gate'
Overview
Tickseed (Coreopsis rosea 'Heaven's Gate') is a spectacular plant well worth growing in the garden. It has bright, magenta-pink flowers with yellow eyes that bloom from late spring to early fall. The finely divided, bright green foliage adds a beautiful texture to the garden. It is incredibly easy to grow, tolerating dry spells once established, and is even deer resistant. This plant is an absolute magnet for bees and butterflies, creating a stunning spectacle in the garden throughout the summer. Best planted in groups of three or more in sunny spots, it's ideal for adding colour and interest to any garden.
Care Guide
Watering
Tickseed should be watered once a week, using about 1 inch (2.5 cm) of water. Allow the soil to dry out completely before watering again. It is important not to overwater the plant, as this can lead to root rot. If the foliage begins to wilt or turn yellow, it's a sign the plant needs more water. Try using an organic mulch or compost to help retain moisture in the soil.
Light
Tickseed (Coreopsis rosea 'Heaven's Gate') plants need at least 6 to 8 hours of full sun each day. This means that it should have direct sunlight for most if not all of the day. If possible, it's best to provide morning sun as well as say afternoon sun for these plants. During peak summer months, it's important to provide some shade during the afternoon's hottest hours, as this will help the plant keep cool and not get too much direct sun. If there is not enough sun, the plants may become weak and have a harder time blooming.

Pruning
Tickseed is a low-maintenance plant species, and generally requires very little pruning. Pruning should be done after the plant has finished blooming in late summer. To keep the healthy appearance of the plant, you should remove any dead or diseased branches. Thin the larger clumps to improve air circulation. If the plant becomes unruly, you can reduce its size and encourage branching by pruning back the top 30 percent in late winter or early spring.
