Autumn crocus (Colchicum 'Violet Queen') is a hardy, low-maintenance planting species. Water the autumn crocus once every 1 to 2 weeks during its growing season, from May to September. Water slowly and gently to saturate the area around its roots without drenching it, as too much water can cause root rot. Allow the soil to dry out slightly between watering to maintain its ideal moisture levels. During autumn and winter, reduce watering to once a month or less, as the autumn crocus will be in a dormant state and require less water.

Autumn crocus (Colchicum 'Violet Queen') grows best in bright, indirect sunlight. It can also tolerate some full sun if it is able to get some respite from the midday heat. In milder climates, direct sunlight for up to 6 hours per day would be ideal, while in hotter climates, 3-4 hours of direct sun is recommended. This plant should not be placed in any area where it will receive constant strong sunlight as it is prone to sunburn. For best results, it should be placed in an area with dappled or semi-shaded sunlight throughout the day, and be protected from intense midday heat.

You only need to prune the old foliage and flower stalks; no other pruning is necessary.
